About the School:

Mylnhurst is a leading independent preparatory school, renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, creativity, and nurturing the individual strengths of every child. Music plays a central role in school life, and we are proud of our dynamic and inclusive music department. We are now seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring Strings Teacher to join our team and help foster a lifelong love of music in our pupils. Mylnhurst is an exceptional school; we are a one-form entry, co-educational, non-selective independent school. You would be joining a happy and successful team of staff, working with talented, highly motivated and well-mannered children.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality individual tuition in one or more string instruments (pupils currently have violin and cello lessons) to pupils from Prep One to Prep Six. The role includes preparing pupils for performances, assemblies, scholarships and examinations, and contributing to the broader musical life of the school through ensemble direction and event support.

Key Responsibilities:

* Deliver engaging and age-appropriate string tuition to pupils aged 5–11
* Inspire confidence, musicality, and enjoyment in young learners of all abilities
* Prepare pupils for school concerts, scholarships and music examinations
* Lead or support school string ensembles and collaborate with other instrumental teachers
* Liaise with relevant staff to contribute to the development of the school's music programme
* Maintain accurate lesson records/ registers
* Communicate progress with parents as required, including one parents' evening per year and an annual report

The Ideal Candidate Will:

* Have a music degree or equivalent professional qualification in their principal instrument
* Have experience teaching young children, ideally within a school setting
* Be enthusiastic, patient and adaptable to the learning needs of primary-aged pupils
* Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills
* Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
* Have flexibility to assist with after school events and concerts
* (Desirable) Have experience of ensemble direction and/or accompaniment skills
* (Desirable) Have an aptitude in using simple ICT

Mylnhurst is set in the heart of the leafy suburb of Ecclesall, Sheffield. The successful candidate will have a full understanding of safeguarding and will be happy to support the school's Catholic ethos.
