Job overview

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to recruit a Specilaity Histopathologist on a full time and part time basis (10PA & 4PA). The successful candidate will join a team of 12 Consultant Pathologists in a modern Cellular Pathology Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are expected to be experienced in all aspects of histopathology and non-gynae cytology and there are opportunities to develop special interests


Main duties of the job

Applicants are expected to have experience in handling cancer resection specimens. Cut-up of surgical specimens in accordance with the RCPath minimum data is expected under Consultant supervision.

The main role of this job is to cut-up the surgical specimens to support Consultants.

Successful candidates are also encouraged to report histology cases under consultant supervision.

There will also be opportunity to report Non-Gynae cytology cases under Consultant supervision and participate in teaching and training activities in the department.

The appointed candidate is also expected to participate in mandatory departmental quality assurance initiatives, attendance in relevant management meeting and participation in annual appraisal.

We are a national screening unit for Bowel cancer screening patients. The Department is recognised for 4 Cellular pathology STs and in addition supported by 2 Senior Clinical Fellows.

Our Hospital is situated close to the motorway networks and at close proximity to beautiful countryside of Ribble Valley and the Lake District and is 40 minutes away from Manchester.
