Job Description
Principal Systems Engineer – HALO (Hostile Artillery Locating System)
Location: Basildon

We are recruiting for a Principal Systems Engineer to join a growing team working on the next-generation HALO (Hostile Artillery Locating System) — a cutting-edge, long-range acoustic weapon locating system. HALO is designed to counter the growing threat posed by electronic warfare and anti-radar weapon systems that limit the effectiveness of radar-based solutions.
This is a key opportunity to join the team during a critical stage of the engineering lifecycle. You will play a lead role in delivering systems engineering activities from concept through to deployment, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to drive integration, qualification, and technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Define, manage, and trace requirements for complex, multi-disciplinary systems.
* Lead and contribute to system integration, verification, qualification, and validation.
* Guide and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence within the team.
* Ensure engineering outputs are compliant with military and industry standards, as well as regulatory frameworks.
* Participate in and lead technical design and peer reviews.
* Support the development and maintenance of a robust software security plan.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Strong knowledge of the full engineering development lifecycle.
* Proven experience in defining and managing system requirements, and supporting V&V activities.
* Demonstrated capability in system-level testing and integration.
* Understanding of CE Marking requirements for electrical and electronic equipment.
* Proficiency with IBM DOORS for requirements management.
* Awareness of relevant safety, security, and legislative standards.
* Background in the defence or related high-integrity engineering sectors.
Desirable:
* Experience in electronics-focused systems roles.
* Ability to create and deliver training material and user manuals for end-users.
