Academics is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant that has a good knowledge and experience using Makaton as a form of communication and a strong commitment to supporting children with additional needs in schools across Halifax.
The Role of an SEN Teaching Assistant:
Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
Using Makaton consistently to support communication, understanding and inclusion
Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
Supporting pupils' emotional, social and behavioural development
Creating a safe, positive and nurturing learning environment
The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant should have:
Have experience working with children with SEN (ASD, speech and language needs, or complex needs desirable)
Be confident and competent in using Makaton
Be patient, empathetic and adaptable
Work well as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff and parents
Hold relevant qualifications or be willing to undertake further training
