Job Title: Mechanical Fitter - Rolling Stock
Salary: £20-23 Per hour Outside IR35
Contract Type: 40 Hours per week
Shifts: Monday to Friday
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join a fast growing rail organisation, supporting the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel and/or electric locomotives.
This is a hands‑on role ideal for engineers with mechanical expertise who thrive in a fast‑paced rail environment. You'll play a key part in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine maintenance, fault‑finding, and repairs on locomotives
- Work on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Carry out overhauls and component rebuilds to industry standards
- Support commissioning and testing of locomotives post‑maintenance
- Complete all job cards and maintenance records accuratelyAdhere to safety, quality, and compliance procedures at all times
- Work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team environment
What We're Looking For
- Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Rail Engineering)
- Proven experience in locomotive or rolling stock maintenance
- Strong fault‑finding skills across both mechanical disciplines
- Knowledge of diesel‑electric systems, traction motors, braking systems, and control systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals
- Flexible and safety‑conscious approach to work, basic tooling required
- Experience working to depot maintenance schedules and procedures (preferred)
