Position Overview
Ithaca Energy is accepting applications for the position of Operations I&C Engineer, located in our Aberdeen Office.
Reporting to the Operations & Maintenance Lead, Cygnus Asset, the ICSS / Control Systems Engineer is accountable for the integrity, availability and correct behaviour of the Cygnus control and instrumented safety systems. The role ensures that the plant and safety systems perform their intended operational and protective functions in line with the Safety Case, applicable standards and lifecycle requirements. This role has primary ownership of system behaviour and logic, rather then individual field instruments.
Responsibilities
* Accountable for the integrity, availability and correct behaviour of the Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS)
* Act as system owner for BPCS, SIS, ESD and Fire & Gas systems, ensuring alignment with Safety Case assumptions
* Own control, shutdown and safety logic integrity, including Cause & Effect implementation
* Govern control system software change, configuration control and system access management
* Ensure compliance with IEC 61511 lifecycle requirements (system perspective)
* Own alarm philosophy, alarm rationalisation and ongoing alarm performance
* Monitor control system health, diagnostics and availability; investigate systemic issues and spurious trips
* Provide system‑level technical authority for MoCs, ORAs and brownfield modifications affecting the ICSS
* Review and approve control system deliverables from projects and engineering contractors
* Support FAT, SAT and commissioning activities as ICSS system authority
* Act as system owner for control system remote access and OT cybersecurity compliance (IEC 62443)
* Provide technical support to offshore operations for control and safety system issues
* Provide cover for instrument engineering activities where competent, including support to field instrumentation issues and MoCs, to ensure continuity of C&I support
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree‑qualified in Control, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience assessed against recognised professional engineering standards
* Working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation, chartered status preferred but not essential
* Strong understanding of oil and gas production facilities and operations, including the role of control and instrumented safety systems in safeguarding plant and people
* Demonstrable experience with Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS) in an operational environment, including control and safety system behaviour
* Good working knowledge of functional safety principles and lifecycle requirements (e.g. IEC 61510) relevant to operating assets
* Proven experience working with Integrated Control & Safety Systems (ICSS) in an operational oil & gas environment
* Hands‑on experience with control and safety systems (BPCS, SIS, ESD, Fire & Gas), including system behaviour and logic integrity
* Experience acting as an operator‑side technical authority or system owner, rather than purely a design contractor role
* Strong working knowledge of IEC 61511 safety lifecycle requirements (system / ICSS perspective)
* Experience with control system software change management, configuration control and access governance
* Practical experience of alarm management, alarm rationalisation and alarm performance improvement
* Experience supporting operations with troubleshooting of control or safety system issues
* Involvement in MoCs, risk assessments and brownfield modifications affecting control systems
* Familiarity with OT cyber security and remote access controls (e.g. IEC 62443 principles)
* Sufficient instrument engineering knowledge to provide competent cover and support where required
* Ability to assess risk and challenge changes to control or safety systems using sound engineering judgement
* Clear communicator, capable of explaining system behaviour, risks and recommendations to non‑specialist stakeholders
* Self‑motivated and delivery‑focused, with the ability to manage competing operational and project priorities in a live asset environment
* Collaborative approach, working effectively with operations, engineering colleagues and contractors
