Full-Time Teaching Assistant – Newport Secondary School – September Start – £89.39 - £95 per Day

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a well-regarded secondary school in Newport.
Although the school operates within a mainstream secondary setting, this role is based in the Special Needs Resource Base (SNRB), where pupils follow a primary-style curriculum tailored to their individual learning needs. As such, experience working with primary-aged children or in a similar specialist setting is highly desirable.
This is a full-time position starting in September, running for the duration of the 2025/26 academic year.

⏰ Working Hours: 08:10 – 14:50, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Full-Time (Fixed Term – 1 Academic Year)
Daily Rate: £89.39 - £95 (Dependent on Experience)
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored support to students with additional learning needs, both one-to-one and in small groups.
* Assist teachers in the delivery of an adapted curriculum designed to support a range of learning abilities.
* Encourage and develop students’ independence, confidence, and engagement across subject areas.
* Support students during integration into mainstream lessons and activities when appropriate.
* Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
* Monitor and record student progress, supporting the team in meeting individual learning targets.
About the Special Needs Resource Base
* The SNRB supports up to 60 students, with 12 places per year group from Year 7 to Year 11.
* Students follow an adapted curriculum including Literacy, Numeracy, and mainstream subjects, delivered by 5 specialist teachers and supported by 10 dedicated Teaching Assistants.
* The SNRB is fully integrated within the school, with students actively participating in house activities, school trips, extracurricular events, and the Student Council.
* Every student in the SNRB is a valued member of the wider school community.
✅ Ideal Candidate
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or in SEN support within a school or alternative provision.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers, and families.
* A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to supporting learners with diverse educational needs.
* Familiarity with EHCPs, behaviour support plans, and SEN strategies is desirable.
* A willingness to contribute to the school’s inclusive ethos and student-focused approach.
