Job Summary
The role of Substance Misuse Recovery Worker is to empower inmates who wish to change their behaviour and promote health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. The role is based at HMP Hatfield and HMP Hatfield Lakes (two sites with around 600 inmates). HMP Hatfield is a Category D open prison, while The Lakes prepares inmates for Category D status.
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hrs per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm.
Salary: £29,264 – £33,510 per year (up to £33,510 based on experience).
Main Duties
* Work independently across the two sites, principally at Hatfield Lakes.
* Carry out risk assessments and work closely with prison staff and security to ensure patients with substance issues are assessed carefully before external group sessions, home visits, etc.
* Manage a caseload of around 40 patients with substance‑misuse needs.
* Deliver group sessions to patients (typically 8‑10 per group).
* Offer advice on harm reduction, relapse prevention, SMART training and host/assist with recovery events.
* Prepare patients for release.

Person Specification – Qualifications & Experience
* Legal right to work in the UK.
* Experience working in substance misuse, ideally within a prison or secure environment, and preferably in a Recovery Worker/Practitioner role.
* Experience working within the substance‑misuse multi‑disciplinary framework (housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways).
* Ability to work independently and manage own diary and time.
