Melville Castle Hotel, a stunning historic property nestled on the outskirts of Edinburgh, is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy General Manager to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on hospitality professional to play a key role in the day-to-day running of the hotel, supporting both our guest experience and the smooth operation of our business.
About the Role
As Deputy General Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager to oversee the hotel's operations, ensuring the highest standards of service are consistently delivered across all departments. With a particular focus on Food & Beverage and Events, you will provide strong leadership to the team, support the delivery of memorable guest experiences, and assist with administrative and managerial tasks.
This role requires a versatile individual who is equally comfortable leading from the front during service as they are assisting with paperwork, reporting, and operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the General Manager in the daily operation of the hotel and act as their deputy in their absence.
* Oversee the Food & Beverage departments, ensuring exceptional service standards and efficient operations.
* Assist in planning, coordinating, and delivering weddings, conferences, and private events.
* Monitor guest satisfaction and address issues promptly and professionally.
* Lead, motivate, and develop the team, setting clear expectations and encouraging professional growth.
* Support with administrative tasks including staff rotas, compliance, financial reporting, and stock management.
* Contribute to sales initiatives, upselling opportunities, and business development.
* Ensure all health & safety, licensing, and operational standards are maintained.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in a managerial role within the hospitality sector, ideally with a strong Food & Beverage background.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
* Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
* A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to be visible across all areas of the hotel.
* Confidence in managing guest relations and handling operational challenges.
* Good IT and administrative skills, with attention to detail.
* A passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional service.
