<div><p>We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Dental Therapist to join our team based in Truro. This will be for 5 days a week, 52 weeks of the year on a permanent basis.</p><p>We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic, motivated Therapist to join the team at PDSE. This is an exciting opportunity that will help support our undergraduate students whilst shaping how our facilities and how they run.</p><h3>Main duties of the job</h3><p>You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality NHS Dental Therapy and Hygiene services to patients. The role will also include carrying out audits of clinical treatment, monitoring of activities and actions of students and supporting the full dental team.</p><h3>About us</h3><p>Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) are an award-winning Social Enterprise and Community Interest Company. We provide NHS treatment and outreach services to local communities in Devon and Cornwall, and we work closely with the University of Plymouth’s Peninsula Dental School to support the clinical education of its dental healthcare students.</p><p>As a social enterprise, we are a value driven organisation with a focus on patient-centred care and addressing local oral health needs.</p><p>This post is subject to enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.</p><p>Please apply via this website or if you would prefer to submit a CV, you can submit this via our website or you can email us at PDSE-recruitment@plymouth.ac.uk.</p><h3>Job responsibilities</h3><p><b>Role</b> Dental Therapist</p><p><b>Grade</b> Dependant on qualifications and experience</p><p><b>Reports to</b> Lead Dentist</p><p><b>Role summary</b></p><p>To provide high quality NHS dental therapy and hygiene services within our Dental Education Facility (DEF). Patients may be referred via student teaching clinics or from our team of qualified dentists. You may also be involved in triage sessions to identify suitable patients for students to treat.</p><p>There may also be an opportunity to supervise the clinical training of BSc Dental Therapy and Hygiene students. This will include supporting the development of clinical skills, knowledge and professional behaviour.</p><p>Your will work in a team environment where dental education and development of the whole team is encouraged.</p><p><b>Key accountabilities</b></p><p>Provide clinically appropriate, high quality NHS dental treatment to patients, following all relevant standards and guidelines.</p><p>Maintain PDSE standards of clinical governance, including infection control, patient confidentiality, clinical record keeping, etc.</p><p>Regularly carry out audits of clinical treatment, both own work and student treatment provision.</p><p>Monitor the activities and actions of the students in order to ensure development of clinical skills and knowledge and offer guidance in all aspects of clinical dental practice.</p><p>Ensure health and safety procedures are observed at all times.</p><p>Support clinical dental education standards by working to evidence-based practice and National and locally agreed (Peninsula Dental School) clinical guidelines and care pathways.</p><p>Support the work of the whole dental team employed by PDSE.</p><p><b>Measures of success</b></p><p>Successful outcomes to items listed in key accountabilities and other delegated tasks.</p><p>Positive customer feedback (staff, patients and students).</p><p><b>Knowledge, Education and Training</b></p><p>A BSc or Diploma in Dental Therapy.</p><p>GDC registration.</p><p>Broad dental knowledge, with up-to-date knowledge of aspects of general practice within your scope of practice.</p><p><b>Experience</b></p><p>Demonstrable clinical experience.</p><p>Active in clinical dental therapy/hygiene practice.</p><p><b>Skills</b></p><p>First class clinical skills.</p><p>Team player who plans ahead and is well organised.</p><p>Ability to provide concise explanations and clear direction and guidance.</p><p>IT Skills including use of electronic dental patient record system and Microsoft Office packages.</p><p>Willing to work to academic standards and be involved in quality assurance.</p><p><b>Behaviours</b></p><p>Professionalism.</p><p>Flexibility.</p><p>A team player.</p><p><b>Other</b></p><p>This job description provides a general reflection of the key accountabilities associated with the post; it is expected that the role holder will undertake any other reasonable activities to assist in efficient service delivery.</p><p>This job description is not exhaustive and may change as the post develops, but such change will not take place without consultation between the post holder and his/her manager. Job descriptions should be reviewed at least annually at the appraisal meeting.</p><p>Normal working hours are 08:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, however on occasions to meet business need you will be required to work revised hours, typically between 08:00 and 18:00.</p><p>The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise CIC (PDSE).
