Overview
The Innovation Delivery Group (IDG) within the Environment Agency is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our team. You will provide leadership for projects within the IDG portfolio, work closely with key stakeholders, and direct the project team to ensure high-quality outcomes throughout the project lifecycle. This role involves taking on incident response duties as part of working for the Environment Agency.
Base location can be any hub nationally with occasional co-location in Hub or delivery partner offices, and there is a focus on delivering complex national projects and programmes that drive innovation, manage risk, and support the Agency’s action plan.
Responsibilities
* Provide project leadership, including oversight and task management of the project team which may include project managers, project support officers, technical specialists, design consultants and contractors.
* Mentor and coach project team members and adapt involvement to suit the strengths of the team.
* Lead projects within the IDG portfolio, ensuring governance, risk management, and delivery to time, cost and quality expectations.
* Engage with senior stakeholders and develop effective stakeholder engagement plans.
* Prepare and present robust business cases and reports to support decision making.
* Support incident response duties when required as part of Environment Agency responsibilities.
Experience and Qualifications
* Essential: Significant experience of leading complex projects or programmes, ideally within engineering, construction, asset management and/or flood & coastal risk management.
* Formal project management training with demonstrated application of tools, techniques and processes throughout a project lifecycle.
* Strong commercial acumen with experience of contract management and procurement.
* Extensive experience of project financial management and forecasting.
* Experience of managing and influencing senior stakeholders and building effective engagement plans.
* Strong report writing skills and experience producing business cases.
* Technical knowledge and leadership in risk management and health & safety compliance.
* Desirable: Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, CIWEM or APMP); training/experience with NEC contracts; experience in preparing Scope of Services for appraisal and construction contract awards; project management qualifications such as Prince2 Practitioner or APM PMQ.
Interviews and Selection
* Competence-based questions will cover Programme and Project Management, Leading People, Focus on Customers and Partners, and Delivers Results Through Others. Examples and STAR technique guidance will be provided during the process.
