Applications are invited for the Consultant in Cardiology post. This post is within the Cardiology Department – Acute and Emergency Medicine (AEM) care group of the Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro. The team currently comprises 11 substantive full‑time cardiologists, 1 part‑time consultant and 2 NHS fixed‑term locums. We aim to employ 2 additional consultants to reach 15 full‑time consultants delivering Cardiology service.
This post is principally designed to support delivery of non‑interventional cardiology services, specifically cardiac imaging, inherited cardiac conditions, heart failure and devices. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the general cardiology service on the wards and outpatients.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of receiving a CCT at the time of interview. Full‑time and job‑share options are available; the position carries a maximum 12 PA job plan.
Main duties of the job
* Clinical management of all patients on the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and Cardiac Intensive Unit (CIU);
* Clinical management of patients on the Roskear ward;
* Deliver comprehensive weekend ward rounds, including visits to the Acute Medical Unit;
* Day‑time management of patients on CCU and CIU on Mondays and mornings throughout the week;
* Participate in cath‑lab sessions and/or outpatient clinics in the afternoons;
* Engage in general cardiology service on the wards and in outpatient clinics;
* Responsibility for inpatient management on CIU, Roskear, and CCU with no separate general medical commitment.
Qualifications
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice;
* MRCP or equivalent;
* GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview;
* Valid UK driving licence;
* Access to transport and ability to travel within and outside the county when required.
Desirable qualifications
* Higher degree, e.g. MD or PhD;
* Management course;
* Teaching experience (medical students, peers, MDT);
* Experience in clinical audit and governance;
* Competence in electrophysiology and devices.

* Strong clinical and personal credibility;
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adapting style to audience;
* Conceptual and analytical skills;
* Fluent English, at least I.E.L.R.S Level 7.5;
* Excellent IT skills.
