A major, large-scale UK farming enterprise is seeking a Farm Management Accountant to become the financial heartbeat of its forward-thinking agricultural operation. Managing over 20,000 acres, the business is dedicated to high-performance crop production, operational excellence, and continual improvement through innovation, precision agriculture, and sustainable farming practices.

THE ROLE
The Farm Management Accountant will play a critical role in delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting, processing, and analysis. Working closely with the Managing Director and wider farm management team, you will ensure robust financial control, help drive cost efficiency, and support strategic planning across a diverse farming business.
This role combines meticulous bookkeeping with forward-looking financial analysis to support investments, crop planning, sustainability projects, and operational optimisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management & Reporting
1. Prepare accurate monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and variance analysis.
2. Monitor crop production costs, margins, variances, and profitability per tonne.
3. Develop and maintain annual budgets, reforecasts, and rolling financial models aligned with seasonal and long-term plans.
4. Produce financial analysis to support decisions around technology investment, new crop enterprises, sustainability, and business growth.
Bookkeeping & Transaction Processing
5. Complete day-to-day bookkeeping including AP, AR, invoicing, bank reconciliations and payment runs.
6. Manage supplier invoices, customer billing, and credit control.
7. Maintain accurate transaction records in compliance with accounting standards.
8. Prepare VAT returns and assist with other statutory reporting.
Compliance & Governance
9. Ensure adherence to UK accounting standards, internal financial controls, and tax regulations.
10. Support external auditors with preparation of schedules and responses to queries.
11. Maintain financial integrity across all operational and administrative processes.
Operational & Farm Support
12. Act as a key liaison between finance and farm operations to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting.
13. Provide financial insight to enhance operational performance, reduce waste, and improve input-cost efficiency.
14. Support modelling and reporting for sustainability initiatives, including carbon accounting and regenerative practices.
Systems & Process Improvement
15. Manage and improve accounting systems and financial processes for greater efficiency and accuracy.
16. Support integration of financial data with farm management software, precision farming tools, and digital platforms.
17. Champion best practice across financial workflows.
Stakeholder Engagement
18. Work closely with the Managing Director, farm managers and external advisors.
19. Present financial insights clearly and confidently to non-financial stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
20. Strong management accounting and financial reporting expertise.
21. Proficient in bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations and VAT.
22. Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software (e.g., KeyPrime, KeyInfinity, Xero).
23. Ability to build budgets, forecasts, and detailed cost analyses.
24. High accuracy, strong analytical skills, and excellent attention to detail.
25. Clear communication skills and ability to explain financial concepts simply.
26. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable
27. Experience in agriculture, estates, or rural business accounting.
28. Understanding of crop costing models and farm operational finance.
29. Familiarity with carbon accounting, sustainability reporting or regenerative farming.
30. Knowledge of integrated farm management systems and precision agriculture tools.
Qualifications
31. AAT qualified or equivalent essential.
32. ACCA/CIMA part-qualified or qualified preferred.
33. Minimum 3 years’ experience in management accounting and bookkeeping.
34. Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax regulations.
