1. As a Senior Technical Manager, you will play a key leadership role within Dalkia Engineering’s Technical Management team, helping to drive technical excellence across the business. You will form part of a wider technical community that supports Dalkia UK Engineering and Dalkia UK Group across all sectors and all stages of the project lifecycle, offering breadth, challenge and long‑term development opportunities.
The Senior Technical Manager is a senior, project‑based role with responsibility for overseeing and managing the delivery of effective design and technical management across one or more projects. A core focus of the position is to technically set up and derisk projects during the pre‑construction phase, reducing uncertainty in design, cost and onsite engineering delivery.
You will work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including bid teams, commercial teams, operational teams, clients, consultant partners, supply chain members and manufacturers. You will be expected to follow corporate governance and processes at all times and to consistently demonstrate Dalkia’s behaviours and values.
This role suits an individual with a passion for complex engineering, high‑quality design and collaborative working, coupled with strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
Key responsibilities and outcomes
* Hold technical responsibility for assigned projects during the pre‑construction phase, liaising with clients, consultant design teams, in‑house bid teams, supply chain and Dalkia operations teams.
* Set up, manage and monitor the project technical strategy and technical deliverables plan, including internal and external technical reviews, in line with Dalkia’s Project Delivery System (PDS).
* Identify, manage and mitigate design and technical risks through to resolution.
* Ensure that appropriate internal and external specialists are engaged at the right time, including MMC/offsite specialists, sprinkler designers and other competent design practitioners.
* Ensure all designs are properly coordinated, integrated and clearly communicated across the project team.
* Understand, plan for and manage Dalkia’s technical obligations under the Building Safety Act and CDM regulations.
* Ensure full compliance with all relevant technical standards, legislation, regulations, industry norms and engineering best practice.
* Oversee design development, value engineering and the controlled management of change.
* Identify design requirements, set and manage consultant deliverables and fees, and ensure alignment with Dalkia’s pricing, procurement, construction strategy and DRM/BG6 deliverables.
* Work closely with consultant design teams, Dalkia UK Digital Engineers, Project Managers and Project Engineers to ensure successful technical outcomes.
What you'll bring
You will be an experienced technical leader within Building Services Engineering, comfortable operating at pace in complex, high‑value environments. You will bring:
* Demonstrable breadth of technical expertise across building services disciplines.
* Proven experience managing design and technical delivery across the pre‑construction phase.
* Strong stakeholder‑management skills, with confidence operating across bid, commercial and operational teams.
* A collaborative mindset, with the ability to challenge and interrogate design within a constructive team framework.
* A strong understanding of technical governance, compliance and risk management.
* Experience managing projects with £5m–£50m MEP value.
* Sector experience within healthcare, commercial, leisure, MOD or MOJ environments (preferred).
Qualifications:
* BEng, MEng or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related Building Services discipline
Professional registration:
* Incorporated or Chartered status (or working towards) with CIBSE, IET, IMechE or another relevant professional institution
