A market-leading online and store-based retail business with a revenue in excess of £100M requires amercially mindedmercial Finance Analyst to primarily be themercial finance contact for the business giving pricing insight and financial business performance. Your new role The successful candidate will be central to shaping trading performance and strategic decision-making. You will translate consumer trends andmercial plans into robust financial insight, use technology to democratise data, and deliver financial models and business cases that materially improve margins and drive growth. Your key responsibilities will involve:
1. Business partnering: Act as the primarymercial finance contact for trading andmercial teams, delivering regular and ad‑hoc analysis, margin diagnostics, pricing insight and performancementary to support optimised decision-making
2. Data analysis & reporting: Create, maintain and enhance management information, KPI dashboards and deep‑dive analysis using Power BI and advanced Excel to provide timely, actionable insight.
3. Systems & automation: Evaluate, develop and deploy reporting solutions and automation across ERP and BI platforms to remove manual processes, improve data quality and accelerate decision cycles.
4. Planning & forecasting: Build budgets, rolling forecasts and scenario models that capturemercial levers and provide clear visibility on forward performance.
5. Stakeholder engagement: Present findings and influence senior leadership, finance teams, trading andmercial functions, and external advisers with clear, concise andmercially focused insight.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be amercially astute finance professional (part-qualified or qualified accountant or QBE) who lives in Excel and Power BI, understands consumer dynamics, and can translate analysis into margin improvements and strategic oues. Ideally, you will have a background in consumer-driven business or demonstrate your confidence in providing accurate and relevant financial performance in a fast-paced business. An overview of your skills would look like:-
6. Expert user of advanced Excel (power query, pivot modelling, VBA or equivalent), with demonstrable financial modelling skills.
7. Strong experience with Power BI or equivalent BI tools; able to build dashboards and translate data into narrative insight.
8. Hands‑on experience with ERP systems; Epicor experience is highly desirable.
9. Demonstrable track record of identifying and delivering margin improvement and cost-to-serve optimisation.
10. Deepmercial and consumer trend awareness — able to connect market/consumer signals to financial oues.
11. Excellent stakeholder management,munication and presentation skills;fortable preparing board‑level papers and financial cases.
12. Strong project management skills and the ability to drive change end‑to‑end.
