The Role
Suitable applicants will join the South Metropolitan Education Regional Behaviour, Engagement and Attendance Team (RBEAT), a critical component of the Region’s work to strengthen student attendance, engagement and behaviour. The team’s work aligns with the Department’s strategic directions outlined in every student, every classroom, every day, Building on Strength, and Focus 2025. RBEAT supports schools and students across three interconnected domains:
1. Student enrolment and attendance
2. Student behaviour
3. Community partnerships
As the Exclusion Support Officer, you will manage a caseload of students who are not enrolled, disengaged and/or have been excluded. You will provide case coordination for compulsory school-aged students (primary and secondary) and their families to support re-engagement with education, training or employment pathways.
You will advocate for students and families to access appropriate supports and ensure case coordination processes comply with relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. A key aspect of the role includes reviewing case allocations, assessing individual needs in collaboration with students and families, and working with previous schools and key stakeholders to maximise successful engagement.
The role requires close collaboration with internal and external agencies such as the School of Special Educational Needs, School of Alternative Learning Settings, School Psychology Service, Department of Communities, Department of Justice, Western Australia Police Force, and Target 120. You will also assist the team in providing advice and consultation to schools, regional staff, families and agencies regarding the School Education Act 1999 and Department policies relating to enrolment, attendance and exemptions.
Applicants will ideally demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with schools, government and community agencies, and youth, education, training and employment services across the region
