Position Summary
Salaried GP required to cover maternity leave. Fixed term 12 months.
Start date: as soon as possible, ideally from 10.6.2026.
6 sessions per week over Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Requirement to be part of the on‑call rota on Thursdays, alternating between morning (8 am‑1 pm) and afternoon (1 pm‑6:30 pm) sessions, with a normal surgery set up during those hours.
Includes a maximum of two home visits per day when not on call.
Responsibilities
In accordance with the practice timetable, the post‑holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, emergencies, telephone consultations, triaging, home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, dealing with queries, patient test results, medical reports and examinations (e.g. insurance companies) on behalf of the practice, writing referral letters (NHS/private), handling paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
Make professional, autonomous decisions about presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health‑care workers within the organisation.
Record clear and contemporaneous IT‑based consultation notes to agreed standards.
Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
Prescribe in accordance with locally agreed and national guidelines.
Perform general GP duties within primary care.
Other responsibilities: teaching and training of doctors and nurses, compliance with practice policies and guidelines (prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, QOF assessment), commitment to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice, maintain a portfolio, contribute to evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting, contribute to development of computer‑based patient records, attend training, meetings and events organized by the practice or other agencies, meet tight timescales for audits and returns to secure funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit).
Out‑of‑hours OOH coverage as agreed by the partnership.
