The Leadership and Organisational Development Advisor plays an important role in supporting the Trust’s leadership and organisational development priorities. Working closely with leaders, managers and teams, the role helps to build leadership capability, strengthen team effectiveness and contribute to a positive, inclusive organisational culture.
As an experienced Leadership & OD Advisor, the post holder designs and delivers leadership and management development programmes, provides coaching and mentoring, and supports bespoke team and service‑level development interventions. The role combines practical delivery with internal consultancy, ensuring leadership and OD activity is relevant, high quality and aligned to organisational priorities.
Through skilled facilitation, insight and evidence‑based approaches, the post holder supports leaders and teams to develop confidence, improve ways of working and embed positive behavioural change. The role makes a direct contribution to improving staff experience, leadership effectiveness and organisational performance in line with Trust values and strategic objectives.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you’ll help our leaders and teams be their best, designing and delivering practical development that makes a real difference on the ground. You’ll partner closely with services to build capability, strengthen teamworking and support positive culture change, all in line with our Trust values and priorities. Your main duties will include:
1. Deliver leadership and management development activity that builds leadership capability and management effectiveness across the Trust.
2. Provide practical organisational development support to services and teams to improve team effectiveness, culture, staff engagement and ways of working.
3. Enable leadership and behavioural development through coaching, mentoring and facilitated development activity.
4. Support talent management, career development and succession planning activity to aid progression, retention and future leadership capability.
5. Contribute to Trust‑wide organisational development and workforce priorities, including leadership framework alignment, culture change and organisational effectiveness.
6. Monitor and evaluate the impact of leadership and OD interventions to support continuous improvement and demonstrate value.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This section sets out how the role operates in practice and the range of activities you will undertake to deliver high‑quality leadership and organisational development support across the Trust. It reflects the hands‑on, delivery‑focused nature of the role and the breadth of work involved in supporting leaders, teams and services. Key responsibilities include:
7. Design, deliver and facilitate a range of accredited and non‑accredited leadership and management development programmes for clinical and non‑clinical staff.
8. Support the coordination and continuous improvement of the Trust’s leadership development offer, including development of materials, session content, evaluation and quality assurance.
9. Provide organisational development consultancy support to teams and services, including scoping requirements, diagnosing issues and designing appropriate interventions.
10. Facilitate bespoke team development and engagement sessions to address leadership behaviours, team dynamics, culture, performance and staff engagement.
11. Deliver one‑to‑one and group coaching and mentoring to leaders and managers, including coaching delivered as part of leadership and talent programmes.
12. Support delivery of talent management and succession planning interventions, including workshops, career development activity, insight tools and career coaching.
13. Deliver and facilitate 360‑degree feedback, appraisal support and diagnostic tools, providing constructive feedback and supporting translation into development action.
14. Contribute to the delivery of OD and workforce projects aligned to organisational priorities, including culture change initiatives and leadership framework alignment.
15. Evaluate leadership and OD interventions using qualitative and quantitative feedback, producing insight to inform improvement and future delivery.
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
16. Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or demonstrable experience working in the professional field.
17. Evidence of structured professional and career development.
18. Management qualification at diploma level or equivalent experience.
19. Coaching qualification or substantial experience of coaching range of senior staff for multidisciplinary roles.
Desirable criteria
20. Teaching qualification at Certificate of Education level or equivalent
21. Psychometric test qualifications.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
22. Knowledge of how to conduct training needs analysis and evaluations.
23. Experience of operational or strategic management.
24. Proven experience of designing and delivering a range of leadership development interventions
25. Experience of managing projects
26. Experience of developing organisational development initiatives.
Desirable criteria
27. Knowledge of team development techniques.
28. Business consultancy experience including scoping out issues, putting together proposals and designing tailored solutions.
29. Knowledge of non-traditional development methods e.g. action learning, development centres, blended learning.
