Overview
Duty Counsellor x 2 (1 100% FTE, 1 80% FTE) – Bangor University, Wellbeing & Inclusivity team, Directorate of Student & Academic Services.
Two experienced Duty Counsellors are required to join our team on a permanent basis. This post is located on campus at Bangor with an option under our Dynamic Working framework to spend some time remotely (within the UK) to support work-life balance, to be discussed at interview.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist psychological and emotional support to students facing a wide range of mental health, behavioural, and interpersonal challenges.
* Respond when students present with mental health concerns; conduct immediate assessments and manage risk to determine the most appropriate next steps to ensure safety and wellbeing.
* Deliver confidential one-to-one counselling and conduct clinical assessments.
* Act as a key contact with our external counselling provider to support effective referral pathways, information sharing, and risk management.
* Liaise with academic schools, professional services, and external agencies to promote positive student wellbeing.
* Contribute to service development through support for workshops, campaigns, and wellbeing initiatives.
* Monitor and report on service activity, including trend analysis, to inform future planning.
Qualifications
* Undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
* Recognised professional qualification in counselling/psychotherapy.
* Eligibility for accreditation by the BACP, UKCP, BABCP or equivalent professional body.
* Desirable: ability to communicate in Welsh.
