Overview
A well-established consultancy is seeking a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to support the delivery of key energy and utilities infrastructure schemes across London and the wider region. The role will involve working closely with a Project Director and multiple stakeholders to ensure programmes are delivered on time, to budget, and to the expected quality and safety standards.
Experience working in a NRSWA environment is essential, particularly with large-scale infrastructure delivered in and around the public highway.
This position would suit someone with 5–10 years’ project management experience within energy, utilities, or infrastructure who’s looking to progress their career on technically complex and high-profile projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Project Director across all stages of the project lifecycle, from planning and procurement through to delivery and close-out
* Coordinate with internal teams, clients, contractors, and local authorities to ensure effective stakeholder engagement
* Prepare and maintain project documentation, including risk registers, programme updates and project reports
* Monitor budgets and provide input into cost control and financial reporting processes
* Support the development and management of project programmes, identifying key risks to timely delivery
* Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks and issues
* Contribute to the procurement process in line with relevant commercial and compliance frameworks
* Monitor project outputs to ensure works are delivered in line with technical specifications and quality standards
* Promote and support health, safety, and environmental compliance across all project activity
* Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients and respond to emerging issues as needed
* Assist with the preparation of tenders, presentations, and other project documentation
Qualifications:
* Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Project Management, Energy or related discipline
* Ideally holding or working towards APM, PRINCE2 or ICE accreditation
* Support is available for APM membership
Experience:
* 5–10 years of experience in project management within utilities, energy or infrastructure
* Experience of working under NEC4 contract terms
* Strong understanding of project delivery processes and gate stages in regulated environments
* Prior involvement in energy transmission projects is preferable; experience in water, renewables or broader utilities is also valuable
Technical Skills:
* Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and project management tools (MS Project or equivalent)
* Familiarity with Primavera P6 and/or MSP is desirable
* Knowledge of budgeting, cost control and financial tracking processes
Soft Skills:
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Well-organised and methodical approach to managing priorities
* Able to identify and address project risks proactively
* Comfortable working under pressure and to deadlines
Desirable:
* Familiarity with UCR processes and regulated utility funding procedures
* Knowledge of local infrastructure policy and permitting processes in the UK
* Understanding of UK health, safety and environmental regulations in the infrastructure sector
Travel:
The role is based in London with a hybrid working model in place. Regular travel across the South East is required, along with occasional travel to other regions depending on project needs.
