Salary: £21.53


Purpose

* To support the manager on day to day operations and development of the service in line with CQC standards
* To assist the manager of the home in the management and administration of all personnel and material resources of the residential home
* To contribute as a deputy manager to the achievement of the authority’s key purposes and to the continuous improvement of its performance
* To manage a team of staff providing high quality and innovative person centred care to older people with a variety of needs including those living with dementia


Generic Accountabilities End Results/ Outcomes

* Managing a staff team to ensure the provision of support to service users
* Implementing and leading best practice for the service user group with complex needs, including those living with dementia; ensuring they are delivering high quality residential care
* Managing and running the home according to CQC guidelines
* Ensuring all operational requirements are met within organisational constraints
* Ensuring staff provide timely practical and personal care to service users based on support plans, risk assessments and best practice
* Carrying out investigations and completing investigation reports as required
* Presenting cases at disciplinary hearings and attending employment tribunals as required


Operational Responsibilities

* Leads shifts including late and weekend works as required
* Supervises senior support workers and support workers and liaises with the home manager as necessary
* Assists the home manager in the management of staff and other resources in the home
* Contributes to the recruitment and retention of staff, taking into account quality and equality issues
* Identifies training needs of staff in the effective delivery of services, participates in training programmes
* Assists the manager in the management of staff sickness absence, meeting the Council's targets
* Takes an active role in the prompt assessments of referrals to the service as delegated by the home manager
* Leads the identification and implementation of service users’ involvement initiatives
* Contributes to the development of service plans to meet strategic business goals; delivers Service plans to ensure the service is meeting required standards
* Participates in the quality assurance systems to demonstrate continuous development
* Provides person centred support ensuring the individual remains central to all support and care
* Provides care and support within procedures and best practice
* Planned and consistent approaches to working with people with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour and those living with dementia
* Works with people with complex needs and/or behaviour that may challenge the service, enabling community participation
* Considers, assesses and manages all risks
* Provides support effectively and to the required standard
* Provides an effective service at all times to manage outcomes that are person centred
* Escalates any concerns
* Supports staff in practice, especially regarding complex needs and those living with dementia
* Assesses the professional practice of staff to ensure required standards are achieved through coaching and mentoring
* Inducts and supports staff in achieving the Care Certificate
* Provides induction, appraisal, supervision, identifies learning gaps and supports staff in their professional development
* Identifies any changes that may impact upon the service/profession and addresses them accordingly
* Promotes and adheres to the professional code of practice: Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England
* Manages a team of staff; assigns and schedules work to maximise available resources; ensures work is completed to required standards
* Undertakes effective performance management to ensure full compliance in standards
* Conducts effective team meetings within required timescales
* Contributes to the team’s service plan in line with the organisation’s vision
* Provides support to staff to ensure required standards are achieved at the right place, right time and right reasons
* Carries out sickness monitoring, keeps necessary documentation and writes reports for final sickness hearings
* Liaises with colleagues and other agencies such as Health Multidisciplinary Team and others to support service users with a range of needs, including those with dementia
* Escalates complex cases to colleagues appropriately and in line with agreed procedures
* Provides advice and support to families/carers
