Are you a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? A warm and inclusive Catholic Primary School in Maghull is seeking a dedicated Reception Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a calm, non-verbal pupil with Autism.
This is a full-time role for the entire academic year, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact in a child’s early education journey.
About the Role
Supporting a Reception-aged pupil with Autism who is non-verbal but calm and settled
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored support
Using visual aids, sensory strategies, and structured routines to aid communication and engagement
Encouraging social interaction and emotional regulation in a nurturing environment
Promoting independence and confidence through consistent, patient support
✅ What We’re Looking For
Experience working with children with Autism or other SEND needs (essential)
Familiarity with PECS, Makaton, or other alternative communication methods (desirable)
A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to behaviour and emotional support
A team player who can collaborate with staff and parents to ensure the best outcomes
Ideal Background
Previous experience as a Reception TA, EYFS practitioner, or SEND Teaching Assistant
Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant Certificate, or similar (Teaching Personnel do provide Level 2 TA qualification training)
Knowledge of the EYFS framework and early childhood development
