The Role
As the Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and continuous improvement of EHSQ policies, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, and leading the organization's health and safety strategy. You’ll manage a team of HSE staff, providing guidance, training, and support, as well as handling all aspects of recruitment, performance management, and staffing decisions within your department. This leadership role requires a proactive approach to safety, as well as the ability to foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Lead and manage a team of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) professionals, overseeing recruitment, performance management, and development.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, and company policies, across all projects and sites.
* Oversee the preparation and review of RAMS, SPAs, and other safety-related documentation to ensure the implementation of best practice safety measures.
* Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure safety standards are adhered to and maintain a proactive safety culture.
* Investigate incidents, accidents, non-compliance issues, and near misses, ensuring thorough follow-up and corrective actions are put in place.
* Oversee the development and delivery of EHSQ training programs to ensure all staff, contractors, and project teams are equipped to meet safety standards.
* Monitor and report on the EHSQ performance of project teams and subcontractors, advising on necessary improvements and corrective actions.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety trends, legislation, and best practices, ensuring the business is always compliant with industry standards.
* Manage internal audits and regularly review corrective actions arising from non-conformances and incidents.
* Ensure all EHSQ documentation is maintained in line with industry regulations and company requirements.
* Travel as needed (20-40%) to project sites across various locations, ensuring hands-on oversight of health and safety standards.
Your Experience and Skills
* A degree or equivalent qualification in Health and Safety.
* Extensive knowledge of third-party accreditations such as ISO 45001:2018, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO 14001:2015.
* Manual Handling Trainer and VDU Assessor certifications are desirable.
* Previous experience in a senior health and safety management role within the construction or related industries, with a strong focus on managing teams.
* Proven ability to manage recruitment, performance, and staffing decisions within an HSE team.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive a safety-conscious culture across the organisation.
* Ability to work independently, take ownership, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
* Full driving license and willingness to travel as required (20-40%).
