The Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes. Due to the service expanding within HMP Woodhill and we have mobilised a new contract. The Mental Health Team in HMP Woodhill provides an integrated Mental Health Service, providing primary mental health team (PMH) and the secondary mental health in reach team (MHIRT). The post-holder will have consultant and RC responsibility for service users, supported by the multi-disciplinary team and managed by the Clinical Director.

Job Responsibilities
Referrals to the psychiatrist are made at the MDT team meeting following an initial mental health assessment. Those prisoners with complex needs and high risk may be jointly managed by both CPN and psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will carry out psychiatric assessments, provide evidence-based interventions, medication reviews and offer advice and guidance on particular cases.
The postholder would be expected to attend up to three outpatient clinics a week, typically seeing three‑four patients in each clinic, and one ward round each week. The team assess patients in healthcare, on ordinary location, the CSC and separation & care unit. A key area of the work will be the assessment and treatment of patients on the inpatient unit (up to 12 patients). The post-holder does not carry a caseload; caseloads are managed by CPNs and the post-holder will conduct psychiatric/medication reviews.
Person Specification
* Essential:
o Clinical leadership/management experience
o Track record of improving quality in a service
o Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
o Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months
o Approved clinician status
o Section 12 MHA approval
o Primary Medical Degree
o CCT in Forensic
o Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge
o Excellent knowledge in specialty
o Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
o Ability to manage clinical complication, conflict and difficult conversations
o Ability to make decisions based on evidence, including the contribution of others
o Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
o Documentation and record‑keeping according to Trust and professional guidelines
o Participation in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities
* Desirable:
o Experience of job planning
o Experience of resolving conflict and complex performance management issues
o Management and leadership course or qualification
o Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD or PhD)
o MRCPsych
o Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service
o Experience of Quality Improvement
o Membership of committee or relevant regulatory body, CQC preparation
o Contract or procurement knowledge
o Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement
o IT literate
o Demonstrable ability to cope under pressure
