Junior Clinical Fellow Cardiology / Cardiac Surgery
We are inviting applications to fill our Junior Clinical Fellow (ST1‑2) position in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This fixed‑term contract will commence in August 2026 and run until August 2027. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practice by the intended start date.
Responsibilities
* Perform ward duties in both Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology, supporting inpatient care on the cardiology admissions unit and inpatient bed base.
* Expand training in cardiology and cardiac surgery specific skills (cardioversion, central venous access, CCU care, clinics, cardiac catheter lab and theatre observation, and imaging).
* Commit to a full‑shift LST cardiology/surgery on‑call rota (including long days, nights and twilights) supported by a resident full‑shift HST cardiology rota and twice‑daily consultant ward rounds.
* Work within a multidisciplinary team composed of foundation year doctors, IMT 1‑2 doctors and Advanced Care Practitioners at the LGI, one of the largest contemporary tertiary cardiac centres in the UK.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice at the time of appointment.
* Previous UK clinical experience as a medical practitioner (not limited to attachments or observer roles).
* Achievement of Foundation competencies from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment.
* Demonstrable experience in medicine or cardiology and capability to manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
* Fluent written and spoken English, with ability to adapt language to the situation.
* Current ALS certification.
* Clear interest in sustained training in Cardiology/Cardiac Surgery.
* Probity and confidentiality, evidence of honesty and integrity.
* Evidence of leadership, organisation and motivation of team members through audit and quality improvement projects.
* Evidence of formal teaching experience, ideally with feedback.
* Research experience, publications or presentations (desirable).
* Relevant postgraduate examinations (e.g., MRCP Part 1, MRCS Part A or equivalents).
