Children’s Social Worker

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Supervising Social Worker to join Wigan’s Kinship Fostering Support Team. The post is full time for a 9 month period to cover maternity leave.
Brief overview of role and responsibilities:
1. Provide support and supervision to kinship foster carers to assist them in providing excellent care to children.
2. Work closely with staff within the service and social work teams to effectively support kinship foster families.
3. Assess and provide training/development opportunities to kinship foster carers.
4. Prepare high quality, accurate, and thorough reports for various purposes (e.g., presentation in legal proceedings, LADO consultations, planning meetings, children’s reviews, fostering and adoption panels).
5. Carry out an annual review of foster families.
6. Contribute to the development of the fostering service.
7. Be willing to work flexibly, including evening work, when required.
8. Be involved in the recruitment and assessment of foster carers and undertake Regulation 24 and viability assessments.
9. Be placed on the duty rota.
10. Ensure children in care are safeguarded and relevant procedures are followed if an allegation/concern is raised against a foster carer.
11. Ensure that children’s care and development needs are met within their homes.
12. Manage and appropriately prioritise tasks within an allocated workload.
13. Assess the need for resources to support foster care in meeting the needs of any children placed, including identifying risk to children and young people, assessing their need for protection, and determining the best method of intervention, ensuring that the Team Manager is consulted/advised throughout the case progression.
