Machine Shop Team Leader / Engineering Team Leader – New leadership opportunity at Pailton Engineering with £19.59 per hour + time and a half overtime, early Friday finish and long-term career stability.
About Pailton Engineering: Pailton Engineering is a Coventry-based global leader in the design and manufacture of precision steering systems. Its components are trusted worldwide across commercial, specialist and military vehicles, where reliability and performance are critical.
The Role: This is a leadership-first role, focused on managing people and production performance rather than operating machinery. You’ll lead a team of around 25 employees across milling, turning and assembly (with cross-coverage where needed), ensuring schedules are met, issues are escalated early, and standards remain high.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading daily shift briefs and ensuring work is running to plan
* Managing holidays, attendance and performance conversations
* Supporting disciplinary processes where required
* Monitoring output and interpreting KPIs
* Using the ERP system (Syteline – training provided)
* Driving productivity, pace and accountability across the team
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a confident, resilient and people-focused leader with experience in a fast-paced engineering or manufacturing environment.
You’ll ideally have:
* Experience managing a sizeable team in production/manufacturing
* Confidence holding teams accountable and leading performance discussions
* Strong communication and decision-making skills
* Good IT skills and confidence learning new systems
* A practical leadership style suited to a direct shop-floor environment
Location & Hours: Coventry (CV6) – fully site-based
Monday–Thursday: 6:00am–2:15pm | Friday: 6:00am–12:00pm
