Band 4 Rotational Pharmacy Technician
The role is to work with the Principal/Senior Pharmacy Technician and other team members to deliver a service to meet the pharmaceutical needs of patients within the Trust. The post will involve rotations across the in‑patient and out‑patient dispensaries and ward‑based medicine management roles on the two hospital sites.
Role of the Department
To provide a co‑ordinated pharmaceutical service which is broad‑based, cost‑effective and efficient, and to promote safe, legal, rational and economic use of medicines and allied products to all its clients.
Main duties of the job
* Participate in the efficient day‑to‑day running of the department and assist the Principal/Senior Technician when required in overseeing the dispensing service.
* Undertake daily stock level checks including expiry dates as per audit requirement, reporting any exception to the Principal/Senior Technician.
* Order/requisition stock from the Pharmacy Store as required.
* Perform in‑patient, discharge and out‑patient dispensing using the Pharmacy Computer System in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
* Participate in dispensing for clinical trials, completing relevant documentation in accordance with departmental procedures.
* Counsel patients/carers regarding their medication.
* Obtain Accredited Checking Technician status if appropriate experience exists and perform final accuracy checks of prescriptions in accordance with departmental protocols.
* Obtain drug history and POD checking accreditation to work on wards in a medicine management role.
* Participate, on a rota basis, in a medicine management role on the wards working with pharmacists to ensure the accuracy of medicines for in‑patients.

The post holder is required to:
* Work within agreed Trust and departmental policies and procedures and accepted standards of practice.

Person specification
Qualifications / Education
* BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Hospital Pharmacy Services, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Desirable criteria
* Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) via Medicines Optimisation Programme (MOP).
* Experience in a Hospital Pharmacy Customer Care role and with the CMM Pharmacy Computer System.
* Computer literacy, initiative, and ability to train other staff.
Experience
* Computerised dispensing and stock control.
* Patient counselling.
* Hospital pharmacy customer care (CMM, Pharmacy Computer System).
Skills / Abilities
* Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
* Fluent written and spoken English.
* Keyboard skills.
* Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
