Overview
Performs computerized axial tomography procedures in accordance with the established professional and departmental standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
1. Reviews consultation requests, checking for special instructions and consults with the Radiologist as necessary.
2. Obtains patient history for correlation with scans.
3. Ensures that billing codes match the exam that was done.
4. Begins and ends procedures and documents all relevant paperwork.
5. Completely follows through with urgent add-on requests.
6. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself.
7. Explains examination procedures to the patient and their family if present.
8. Provides radiation protection to patients, staff, and self according to prescribed standards.
9. Performs all routine CT Scan procedures according to established protocols.
10. Evaluates the scan for technical quality.
11. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation.
12. Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all equipment located within the CT department.
13. Performs visual preventative safety inspections.
14. Identifies and communicates problems to the immediate supervisor.
15. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures, and administers first aid or CPR as needed.
16. Completes needed follow-up documentation such as contrast reaction forms, extravasation reports, and Safety Tracking Tools.
17. Assists radiologists with CT guided drainages and biopsies.
18. Verifies that the patient has consented to the procedure and understands the risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up.
19. Prepares and administers contrast media according to department policies and procedures.
20. Evaluates lab values as required prior to administering contrast media and beginning interventional procedures.
21. Is competent in aseptic technique and properly labels and handles multidose containers.
22. Is IV competent.
23. Stocks supplies, monitors, and reports supplies in shortage and special order items.
24. Keeps work area clean and neat.
25. Maintains daily equipment logs.
26. Demonstrates a working knowledge of Radiology PC software programs such as Novius, Invision, and Document Scanning.
27. Can access Scheduling.com and can order patient exams in Invision if necessary.
28. Seeks out educational opportunities and shares new knowledge with others.
29. Willingness to learn and volunteers for special assignments.
Qualifications
One year CAT Scan experience preferred. Must complete Point of Care Testing training as part of Department Orientation.
