Assistant Healthcare Scientist

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Healthcare Scientistto join our dynamic and friendly team to work in Cardio respiratory Department at Scarborough hospital, occasionally at Bridlington hospital, and the Scarborough Community Diagnostic Centre which is due to open in October.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in working in a busy clinical environment supporting both the cardiology and respiratory services. You will play a key role in providing high quality care to patients who are undergoing investigations such as ECG's, ambulatory monitoring and spirometry as well as supporting the physiologists/clinicians during their clinics.


Main duties of the job

The post will provide a varied and interesting workload including but not limited to these key areas:

* Perform a range of cardio respiratory tests including ECG, blood pressure monitoring, holter monitoring, spirometry. Assist in other tests such as Exercise tolerance tests, Stress Echo and monitoring patients following Transoesophageal Echo.
* Prepare patients for procedures and explain tests in a clear and compassionate manner.
* Clean and calibrate equipment in line with departmental protocols, including the crash trolley.
* Accurately record and input patient data onto relevant IT systems
* Support the team with administrative tasks as required
* Ensure a high standard of infection control and patient confidentiality.
* The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work well as part of a multi disciplinary team
* A keen interest in Healthcare with a commitment to undertake relevant courses and training programmes as part of their professional development
* Good IT and organisational skills

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Basic secondary education
* Basic Knowledge of the NHS
* Certificate in Electrocardiography (or working towards)


Experience

* Previous NHS experience within a multi disciplinary environment.
* Working with public and patients
* Knowledge of Cardio-Respiratory investigations
* Knowledge of York Hospital IT system and database
* Ability to assist in a broad range of cardiorespiratory investigations
* Ability to communicate sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives, and carers.
* Able to undertake complex eyehand coordination tasks such as electrode placement and dexterity and coordination for use of diagnostic equipment e.g. performing ECG on neonate in special conditions
* IT literate.
* Sensitive understanding of both adults and children who may be suffering from a variety of medical disorders including those of a complex cardiac nature.
* Ability to work autonomously, coordinate and prioritise
