Civil Engineer
Permanent
Drax Power Station, Selby
Up to £65,000 + bonus and benefits
Closing date: Sunday 15th June 2025
As an Engineer within the Civil Engineering Team, you’ll be a Drax Power Station Civil subject matter expert. You’ll be accountable for technical excellence, with the expertise to make key engineering decisions.
You’ll have the responsibility of liaising with and managing a large consultancy and contractor resource.
Who we are
We’re not just talking about making a difference, we’re making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have the ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.
You’ll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers, and business champions. We’re enabling a zero-carbon, lower-cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.
About the role
You’ll be supporting the Lead Engineer to deliver the Business Plan, providing a key contribution to the development of strategies to maintain aging assets and construct new civil infrastructure.
You’ll be a key member of the Civil Engineering team, supporting fellow team members and acting as a point of contact for civil engineering inquiries.
You’ll manage internal and external stakeholders—including internal departments, sub-contractors, suppliers, and designers—and produce specifications and project scoping documents. You’ll ensure work packages are delivered to the required standards and manage any risks.
You’ll be accountable for compliance with legislative, statutory, corporate, and site policies and procedures, requiring strong commercial and contract management awareness.
As an Engineer, you’ll be responsible for contract management, including negotiating and tendering contracts, specifying work, conducting risk assessments, and supervising contractor work.
A large part of this role involves collaborative work within the Civil Engineering team and other departments. Flexibility and the ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment are essential.
We’re looking for a team player who will engage in all aspects of daily operations and handle specialist inquiries. As a small team, supporting and covering for others when needed is important.
About you
To succeed in this role, you’ll be technically competent, able to review designs, calculation packs, and methodologies aligned with British Standards, Eurocodes, and Temporary Works.
You’ll have previous design experience as a consultant or design manager for a contractor, with experience managing civil infrastructure and building projects in the construction industry.
You’ll be an exceptional communicator, capable of engaging at all levels within the business and managing multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
Finally, you’ll hold a relevant university degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
