Advanced Paediatric Physiotherapist

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.


Job overview

Due to additional funding to expand our current service offer, we have new posts and are looking for experienced, forward-thinking, supportive and friendly Paediatric Physiotherapists to be based either at Basildon or Broomfield Hospital, working within the Children's Therapy Service.

You will be part of a well led, dynamic and friendly MSE wide team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants, who constantly strive for integrated working – optimising patient care and team morale. The team works together to achieve both positive patient experience and successful outcomes.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for Physiotherapy and a desire to actively participate in all aspects of the role. They will lead an area of the outpatient musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and/or rheumatology physiotherapy service at their base site. The successful candidate must be an effective team player with excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to demonstrate evidence of recent professional learning.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the delivery of the musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and rheumatology aspect of the paediatric physiotherapy service. This includes potential for inpatients, outpatients and supporting work in clinics.

The role will use highly specialist skills to manage their own complex caseload, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. They will act as a specialist resource for colleagues and the wider MDT in the management of children with musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and / or rheumatological conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Children's physiotherapy service is an integral part of the Trustwide Children's Therapies team and we work closely with other therapy colleagues.

We have site based team leads, as well as an MSE wide Children's Therapy Lead and Head of Therapies. We also work closely with our adult counterparts.

We are looking for a paediatric physiotherapist who prides themselves in providing excellence, is respectful, as well as being compassionate.

Person specification


Qualifications / experience

* HCPC registration
* Degree or other recognised qualification in Physiotherapy
* Evidence of post graduate learning relevant to the clinical field
* Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
* Evidence of relevant postgraduate training
* Member of Paediatric Clinical Interest Groups


Skills / knowledge

* Recognised level of expertise in assessment/treatment within the specialty
* Use of evidence-based practice
* Ability to pass on skills/ knowledge to others within formal and informal environments
* Good knowledge of current issues within the NHS and physiotherapy profession
* Experience supervising staff, students and assistants
* Clinical experience within a National Health Service setting or similar health setting.
* Relevant experience at band 6 level in paediatrics
* Development of protocols and guidelines
* Knowledge of service improvement techniques e.g. change management and compassionate leadership
