We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance and training, and environmental best practice.
Experience/skills required and capability-based questions are used in the application process.
This vacancy closes end of October. Interviews are expected to be held in person in Birmingham, by the end of November. Some travel may be required.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
* respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents

Experience and Qualifications
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage diversity considerations
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
