The Role As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you’ll: Support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and learning difficulties. Provide one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils to access learning in a way that works for them. Use strategies such as visual timetables, Now & Then boards, and sensory regulation activities to aid transitions and reduce anxiety. Build positive, trusting relationships to help pupils develop confidence, independence, and resilience. Work closely with teachers and other support staff to deliver tailored interventions and scaffolded learning. About You No prior experience is required – just a genuine passion for helping children with additional needs. You’ll be patient, empathetic, and adaptable, with strong communication skills. A willingness to learn approaches such as Zones of Regulation, TEACCH, Thrive, PECS, and Makaton. Committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and supporting pupils to reach their full potential.
