Transition Teacher – Fixed term until 26/06/2026.
Overview
Firrhill High School Community – part of the Firrhill Learning Community, a diverse community situated in the South‑West of Edinburgh. We work closely as a cluster developing joint initiatives, have strong transition links enhanced by cluster counsellors working with pupils in both primary and high school settings, and work with the MOD for our armed forces pupils.
Salary and Hours
Salary: £33,594 - £50,589.
Hours: 35 per week.
Responsibilities
* Support the implementation of City of Edinburgh Council Attainment work by facilitating effective Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing learning and curricular transition across our education establishments.
* Work with pupils from P5 to S3.
* Help close the poverty‑related attainment gap while raising overall attainment.
* Plan, deliver and evaluate lessons to meet the needs of the target group.
* Organise workload and meet deadlines as part of a collaborative, team‑based approach.
Qualifications and Experience
* Significant relevant experience as a qualified teacher with a record of high professionalism in the classroom.
* Sound knowledge of current national curricular developments, teaching and learning theory and practice, with a willingness to keep abreast of such developments.
* Evidence of the ability to implement and evaluate new methodology.
* Strong management liaison, communication and presentational skills and a commitment to maximising pupil progress.
Additional Requirements
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If you have spent a continuous period of three months or more outside the UK in the last five years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre‑employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
