The Department of Vascular Surgery consists of 5 WTE NHS Consultant staff (excluding this post), 1 Specialist Doctor, 1 Specialty Registrar, 3 Clinical Fellows, 1 Core Trainee, 3 Resident Doctors FY2 level and 4 Resident Doctors FY1 level. In addition we are supported by 1 Vascular Nurse Consultant, 1 Clinical Nurse Specialist and 1 Physician Associate.
At present the Unit consists of 18 beds in Ward 215 and 6 Vascular Rehab Beds based at Woodend Hospital. The service is supported by a modern Vascular Laboratory, with 1 Vascular Lead Scientist, 2 Vascular Technologists, 1 Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker and supporting administrative staff. General Outpatient Clinics are run from a dedicated Outpatient clinic area, along with a Day case / Outpatient (office) based Endovenous Thermal (EVLT) service. The department is 1 of 6 centres in Scotland running the National Screening Programme for AAA disease. There is also a comprehensive Endovascular service delivered jointly with Interventional Radiology, and the department works closely with the Nephrology service to support Renal access.
The Vascular Unit, in addition to looking after the population of Grampian, covers the Orkney and Shetland Islands. All patients are treated within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary although there are strong links with Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has been designated as the Major Trauma Centre for the North of Scotland (NoS) and will provide other hospitals a specialist service with the network. The Vascular Unit participate in the primary Adult Code Red for Major Trauma call.
We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated and forward thinking individuals to join our dynamic team. The applicant should have the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team and have an understanding of and willingness to participate in improvement and redesign. The successful candidate will join the Consultant rota and is expected to work a one in five rota with prospective cover for holidays and study leave. Although this is a senior role, with an expectation of the ability to provide substantially autonomous practice, appropriate support and supervision will be provided by the Consultant group to aid development and ensure clinical governance.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC
