Covering for the current postholder to 31st May, you will work in the Unity Group Office, the new majority opposition group on Wakefield Council, and provide advisory, research and organisational support to the Group Leader alongside other councillors within the political group and assist them in developing policies and strategies.
As a new political group your role will be to support group members so as to empower them to carry out their role effectively as the Council's main opposition political group.
Ideally you will have:
1. knowledge and understanding of current issues affecting local government:
2. a knowledge of the Council's political structures;
3. ability to show political awareness and sensitivity whilst working with tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment.

The post is for a fixed term until 31st May to cover for the current postholder. The post may require occasional attendance at evening meetings.
The post is filled under section 9 of the Local Government and Housing Act (Assistants for Political Groups). The post is politically restricted under section 2 of the Act.
