Job Title: Transport Manager
Reports To: Warehouse Operations Manager
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:30 (30-minute unpaid lunch; additional hours as required)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, highly organised, and hands-on Transport Manager to oversee and coordinate the efficient movement of goods and materials within our organisation. The successful candidate will manage logistics operations, lead a dynamic team, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and maintain seamless transportation services. This role requires strong management skills, excellent communication, and a solid understanding of supply chain processes. The Transport Manager will also provide operational cover for the Warehouse Operations Manager and other key colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Operations
* Develop, implement, and optimise transportation strategies to improve delivery schedules, minimise costs, and ensure legal compliance.
* Plan daily delivery routes and schedules, including lorries, vans, and courier shipments.
* Monitor driver performance (mileage, MPG, speed, vehicle utilisation) and provide performance reports.
* Manage non-deliveries, customer notifications, and alternative delivery arrangements.
* Carry out pre-dispatch Area Bay checks prior to first and second dispatch runs.
* Provide hands-on support and operational cover when required.
Driver & Customer Service Liaison
* Coordinate daily with drivers and customer service to meet customer requirements.
* Support drivers with logistical challenges and special delivery requests.
* Ensure adherence to the company service promise and maintain excellent customer service standards.
Warehouse Operations
* Participate in daily stand-up meetings and support warehouse activities.
* Train new starters on warehouse procedures.
* Enforce health & safety standards, PPE usage, and regulatory compliance.
* Undertake additional warehouse duties as required.
Agency Resource Management
* Book agency drivers and warehouse operatives based on workload demands.
Data & Reporting
* Analyse logistics data using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook), OrderWise, and other IT systems to identify areas for process improvement.
* Maintain accurate records of deliveries, vehicle logs, and driver hours in line with company policies.

Experience & Qualifications
* Proven management experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain sectors.
* Strong driving background with relevant licences for commercial vehicles (desirable).
* Extensive knowledge of logistics operations, supply chain management, and route optimisation techniques.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and transport management IT systems, Order Wise experience a plus.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
* Experience in customer service within a logistics or supply chain environment is advantageous.
Working Arrangements
* Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:30 (hours may vary; additional hours as required).
* Annual leave: 22–25 days plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase up to 5 unpaid days.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £30,000.00-£37,500.00 per year
