Job summary
Tatton Unit is a 16 bed low secure unit for men aged between 18 - 65 years. The unit provides care and support for people who have a severe and enduring mental health condition, such as paranoid schizophrenia. The unit is staffed by a skilled multi-disciplinary team including a Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Doctors, Nurses and Occupational Therapists.
The Medical Secretary is responsible for co-ordinating the secretarial and administrative support for the Unit. The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload with the Consultant and supporting medical team and co-ordinate their activities to ensure that an efficient service is provided.
Main duties of the job
To provide personal secretarial assistance to the Consultant Psychiatrist and their Medical team.
Able to work unsupervised and manage own workload, exercising the highest standard of confidentiality using independent judgement and initiative, based on acquired knowledge and experience, demonstrating influence and composure when working under pressure and to strict guidelines.
To manage the diaries of the medical team members and to be responsible for planning and coordinating day to day activities by scheduling meetings, appointments and clinical commitments.
To assist in managing and maintaining the departmental systems ensuring accuracy of all data that supports the delivery of clinical services.

1. Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
2. ECDL training or equivalent
3. AMSPAR qualification or equivalent experience and knowledge of required terminology
4. NVQ Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience/knowledge

5. Previous NHS experience
6. Previous experience in an administrative and supervisory role
7. Experience of dealing with complex inquiries that require signposting to services or facilitation of a resolution
