Salary: £79,424 per annum + Dependent Upon Experience

About IPSD
Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary
This role offers the chance to lead the next generation of manufacturing systems that will shape how IPSD Medium Engines operates globally. The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Manager has responsibility both for the stability and daily operation of core manufacturing systems, and for developing future system capabilities in partnership with Information Technology, the Enterprise digital team, and the technical matrix organisation within Global Technical Services. The manager leads a skilled team that represents the voice of manufacturing, delivers system improvements, and plays a central role in Caterpillar's drive towards Modern Manufacturing across a complex, high volume, high variety environment.

This is a workplace‑based position completed over a five day week, ensuring strong collaboration with your team and the wider operations community.
The role includes international travel to global facilities within the scope of responsibility, which may include Brazil, India, North America, and China, with travel requirements expected to be up to 25%.
This role combines operational accountability for today's manufacturing systems with responsibility for developing the next generation of digital capabilities in partnership with Information Technology, the Enterprise digital team, and the technical matrix organisation within Global Technical Services.
What You Will Do
Lead a team of engineers and technical specialists who operate, support, and continuously improve the manufacturing systems relied upon in daily production across IPSD Medium Engines.
Work with Information Technology, the Enterprise digital team, and the technical matrix organisation in Global Technical Services to design, develop, and deliver future system capabilities that align with Caterpillar's Modern Manufacturing strategy.
Own the performance and development roadmap for Enterprise Bill of Process, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning integrations, and Teamcenter Manufacturing, ensuring both effective operation today and readiness for emerging needs.
Ensure the voice of manufacturing is represented in all system designs, development decisions, and enterprise system design and development discussions.
Deliver systems development and digital transformation projects that strengthen quality, velocity, cost, and data driven decision making across machining, assembly, test, and supporting processes.
Optimise Enterprise Resource Planning workflows across facilities that utilise QAD Enterprise Edition, SAP, and other local systems, ensuring clear process design and effective integration with shop floor applications.
Build capability by developing the team's technical depth, strengthening digital skills, and creating an environment where the team are inspired to innovate and lead continuous improvement.

Additional Requirements
Strong experience in manufacturing systems or digital manufacturing, including hands‑on work with Manufacturing Execution Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as QAD Enterprise Edition or SAP, and Bill of Process methods using tools such as Siemens Teamcenter Manufacturing, Delmia Apriso, or Delmia Process Engineer.
Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team of technical specialists, with a leadership style that builds trust, encourages innovation, and creates an environment where people perform at their best.
Well-developed communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to work across Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Information Technology, and programme teams to align priorities and deliver shared outcomes.
A solid foundation in structured problem solving and data driven decision making, with the ability to analyse system performance, identify improvement opportunities, and deliver meaningful enhancements to quality, velocity, cost, and user experience.
A degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience supported by recognised accreditation such as Chartered Engineer status. Experience that strengthens a top candidate may include leading digital transformation initiatives, supporting New Product Introduction readiness, or applying Lean or Six Sigma methods across multiple facilities.
