About the Role
We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Building Maintenance Supervisor to join our team in Tower Hamlets, working in partnership with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. You’ll oversee the delivery of planned and responsive works to void properties ensuring works are completed to high standards of quality, safety, and customer care.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational oversight, excellent communication, and a commitment to service excellence. You’ll manage trades and subcontractors, carry out inspections, and ensure compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.
Role Responsibilities
1. Conduct pre, mid and post-inspections on internal and external void properties
2. Inspect works at height including doors, windows, and snagging on scaffolding
3. Supervise and coordinate tradespeople and subcontractors across multiple workstreams
4. Oversee planned and responsive repairs to ensure timely and high-quality delivery
5. Ensure all works meet industry standards and building regulations
6. Log works and generate reports using PDA systems and Excel
7. Provide excellent customer care and resolve issues professionally
8. Monitor productivity, resource allocation, and contract profitability
9. Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, quality, and compliance
10. Compile management reports on operational activities and performance
11. Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols and company operating procedures
Role Criteria
12. A full valid UK manual driving licence
13. Experience in the above duties
14. Proven experience supervising operatives within the repairs and maintenance sector
15. Hands-on knowledge of building maintenance practices. Trade background would be advantageous.
16. Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multi-trade teams
17. Ability to carry out inspections and assess work against quality standards
18. Comfortable working at height and inspecting scaffolding-based works
19. Strong understanding of planned, cyclical, and responsive repair programmes
20. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
21. Ability to use PDA systems and Excel for reporting and logging tasks
22. Strong customer focus and commitment to service excellence
23. Organisational and planning skills to manage resources and meet deadlines
24. Entitlement to work in the UK (Mears does not offer visa sponsorship)
25. Willingness to undergo DBS/security checks prior to employment
