About the role
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Mechanical team in Manchester.
Our Manchester office has strong regional client relationships and works on diverse local, regional, and international projects across sectors such as Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, Science & Research, and Mission Critical & Data Centres. You will join a collaborative, knowledgeable, and high-performing team that values support, flexibility, and engagement.
As a Principal Engineer, you will support and deliver designs for various project types and sizes, working within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality service, client satisfaction, and business growth.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Building and maintaining client relationships and creating future opportunities.
* Promoting Hoare Leas services and contributing to bid preparation.
* Defining project briefs, taking ownership, and delivering profitable schemes.
* Leading large-scale projects and coordinating all disciplines as the main client contact.
* Developing and leading a high-performing local team and supporting staff development.
* Managing project workload, delegating tasks, and reviewing work.
* Monitoring project expenditure and reporting on costs and resources.
* Ensuring quality standards and technical accuracy, managing risks.
About you
To succeed, you should have:
* Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or similar, with a record of delivering complex projects.
* Knowledge of mechanical services such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, with strong communication skills.
* Proficiency in software/tools like Revit and AutoCAD.
* Self-awareness, openness, and a collaborative spirit.
* Familiarity with relevant British Standards.
* Consultancy experience, understanding the impact of acoustics, fire engineering, and modelling on design.
