Representing over 3,000 members in Wales, the CLA's goals are to protect and shape the future of the Rural Landscape, including Welsh agriculture, rural economy regeneration, planning system improvements, and policy shaping with Members of the Senedd and Welsh MPs.
Your new role
Policy
1. Supporting the senior policy adviser on land use and rural economic development relevant to the CLA members.
2. Developing CLA policy on land use and rural economic development in collaboration with colleagues and members.
3. Engaging proactively with Government on policy matters of importance to CLA members.
4. Responding to consultations, strategies, and reviews related to policy areas.
5. Supporting the Polisi Cymru committee, including preparing papers, presentations, and follow-up actions. Attending relevant meetings.
6. Participating in internal and external stakeholder meetings at Wales and UK levels.
7. Providing briefings, guidance notes, reports, and policy papers as required.
8. Delivering talks and presentations on policy matters.
9. Leading or supporting CLA campaigns on relevant policy issues.
10. Maintaining a general understanding of all CLA policy areas.
11. Updating the CLA website on your policy expertise.
Advice
* Advising members on relevant matters verbally and in writing.
* Ensuring advice is accurate and timely, in line with CLA standards.
Lobbying and Media
* Participating in lobbying and media activities, including drafting media releases.
* Acting as a media spokesperson as needed.
* Representing the CLA on speaking platforms.
* Liaising with civil servants, politicians, and stakeholders.
Marketing
* Engaging in marketing activities, including drafting technical papers, articles, and news features.
What you'll need to succeed
* Knowledge of policy areas relevant to land use and rural issues, including agriculture, land use, planning, infrastructure, and renewable energy development.
* Understanding of Welsh Government policies and devolution.
* Excellent report-writing skills and experience in policy development and critique.
* Experience responding to government consultations.
* Chartered Surveyor status or working towards it.
* Experience advising farmers, land managers, and related stakeholders.
* Understanding of future agricultural policies and legislation.
* Strong communication skills and team orientation.
* Confidence in strategic communication with policy advisers and decision-makers.
* Ability to engage with diverse CLA membership segments.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Self-motivation and initiative.
Rural Knowledge
* Understanding of CLA’s purpose and rural issues (desirable).
* Knowledge of issues affecting rural land managers and businesses (essential).
Other
* Full driving license and willingness to travel across Wales.
