JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead – Optimisation Lab
SALARY: £92,701 - £109,060
LOCATION: Edinburgh
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office location.

As part of our Edinburgh based team, you will lead a tea, in our Digital Lab focused on optimising and evolving our digital experience in line with Group Strategy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a driven candidate who can provide hands-on engineering leadership and expertise. You will be passionate and experienced in designing and delivering scalable web/mobile applications.
As Engineering Lead you will work collaboratively with other Lab roles and the wider platform leadership team to create empowered engineering teams who are motivated to take on business problems and realise value to customers through excellence in execution. You will be pivotal in shaping the vision for the Lab, and as a result centre on setting the strategic direction for the engineering teams to demonstrate thought leadership in contemporary technical delivery, across the entire lifecycle, from idea to realisation of value. You’ll also collaborate with engineering leads in other platforms (within IP&I and across the Group) to develop our underlying strategic architecture.
Here's how you'll make a difference…
1. You’ll be responsible for the successful delivery of the customer proposition through our Scottish Widows and retail apps, providing strategic direction and oversight of customer experiences in native and web.
2. Foster a Fail Fast, Learn Faster mentality within Teams to experiment and test new ways of engineering.
3. Work closely with the Product Owners to prioritise system improvements alongside the delivery of product features, driving high quality change delivery.
4. Act as a change agent for engineering and team culture, promoting a test and learn approach, systems thinking and user experience led design.
5. You’ll understand Systems Thinking and Service Design to mitigate reactive solutions that leads to further technical debt.
6. Be responsible for third party and internal IT providers including management of significant investment and BAU budgets.
7. Attract, develop and retain engineering talent.
8. Drive a culture of learning and continuous improvement motivated by Engineering excellence and plays a lead role in supporting Engineering Chapters, guilds and community activities.

What you’ll need
9. A visionary leader and an advocate for digital transformation.
10. Deep expertise in Digital Optimisation, A/B testing and associated data analysis
11. Extensive experience and technical engineering knowledge in delivering customer experiences on mobile (native and web), and proven experience in development of channel architecture capability.
12. A passion for team development; allowing colleagues to develop in different/new technologies and mature in ways of working, resulting in a successful team.
13. Are technology agnostic and willing to adapt your approach in pursuit of the best solution; enables via an excellent knowledge and understanding of multiple engineering & software design solutions.
14. Experienced in providing software engineering oversight, technical and people leadership across multiple teams.
15. Successful in building a high performing team culture.
16. You will inspire delivery whilst encouraging simplicity and developing confidence & trust.
17. Ideally, hands-on experience delivering AI/LLM solutions to customers
