What's involved with this role: Job Title: Solicitor Reference: Warwickshire 5280970 Salary: £20.20 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution – client is willing to consider market rate for the right candidate Hours:37 hours per week Monday-Friday Role length: 6 months opening assignment Job type: Hybrid Location: Warwick Contract Type: Temporary The role: You will support the Council’s Legal Services team, providing clear and reliable legal advice and handling a varied case load. The work spans local government law, litigation, contracts, governance and regulatory matters. You will help ensure the Council meets its statutory duties and maintains high professional standards. Key Responsibilities: Advise on local government law, including planning, procurement, housing, data protection and FOI. Handle criminal litigation, including drafting information’s and conducting cases in the Magistrates’ Court. Manage civil litigation in the County and High Court, including case prep and conduct. Draft, negotiate and advise on contracts for goods, services, works and software/data. Advise on licensing matters across relevant statutory frameworks. Draft statutory orders including byelaws, footpath diversions and parking orders. Provide day-to-day legal support to officers and represent the Council at external bodies. Instruct Counsel where required and support governance through attendance at committees and boards. Ensure all work aligns with Council policies, KPIs and expected standards. What the client is looking for: A qualified Solicitor (essential). Broad grounding in local government law. Strong advocacy skills, ideally with Magistrates’ Court experience. Ability to draft clear, accurate legal documents and agreements. Confident in handling both civil and criminal matters. Able to manage a busy workload, prioritise effectively and work with minimal supervision. Customer-focused approach and a practical problem-solving attitude Full driving licence Desirable: Previous local authority experience. Experience advising at committees or supporting elected Members. Licensing, prosecutions or debtor recovery experience.
