We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individualto join our friendly GP practice team as an Apprentice Healthcare SupportWorker (HCSW).

This is an excellent opportunity for someone considering afuture career in nursing or healthcare. No previous experience as a HealthcareSupport Worker is required. We welcome applications from school leavers, careerchangers, or individuals currently working in administrative, reception, ordispensing roles who wish to develop a clinical career within primary care.

Thesuccessful candidate will be enrolled onto the North Wales HCSW FoundationProgramme, a structured 9-month training programme delivered through thePrimary and Community Care Academy, enabling you to develop the knowledge,skills, and confidence required to support patient care in general practice. Starts July 2026


Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be supported to develop competencies in:

* Infection prevention and control
* Physiological measurements and health observations
* Wound care support
* Point of Care Testing (POCT)
* Urinalysis
* Chaperoning
* Patient interaction and information gathering
* Recognising and escalating concerns about unwell patients
* Safeguarding and patient protection
* Supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives
* Care navigation and signposting patients to appropriate services
* Venepuncture training


About us

We are a friendly, well-established, forward thinking, training practice in Rhosllanerchrugog near Wrexham. The practice currently has 6350 patients, 6 GPs, 2 GP trainees, 2 Nurses, 1 HCA, 1 phlebotomist and an excellent administration team. Job responsibilities

About the Role

Working under the supervision of experienced Practice Nurses and the wider clinical team, you will learn to provide safe and effective patient care while undertaking a recognised Level 3 qualification.

As your skills develop, you will support patients and clinicians through a range of clinical and administrative activities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be supported to develop competencies in:

Training and Development

The successful candidate will undertake the Agored Cymru Level 3 Primary Care Healthcare Support Worker Certificate as part of the HCSW Foundation Programme.

Training includes:

* Professional Practice in Primary Care
* Human Anatomy and Physiology
* Principles of Wound Care
* Safeguarding
* Point of Care Testing
* Personal Development in Health and Social Care
* Practical Clinical Skills Training
* Supervised workplace competency assessments

You will receive support from:

* A named Practice Nurse Supervisor/Assessor
* The GP Practice Team
* A peer support network with fellow HCSW trainees across North Wales


Person Specification

* Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 30 contracted hours per week and be available to start in early July 2026.

Qualifications

* Good standard of education including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Caring, compassionate and professional approach.
* Willingness to learn and undertake training.
* Good organisational and time management skills.
* Basic IT skills.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
* Previous experience working with the public.
* Experience in a healthcare, care, customer service, reception or voluntary setting.
* Interest in pursuing a future career in nursing or healthcare
