The role sits within the Transport Platform, a key member of the wider Consumer Business Unit. Our mission is to keep Britain moving by providing customer focused solutions to facilitate access to vehicles, maintenance, and related services including Digital account management. We’re on a journey to transform our core technology architecture and the technical capabilities of our colleagues by simplifying and modernising our technology architecture with new digital journeys, microservices, and a new data ecosystem, embedded DevOps and Agile working practices.
What you’ll do
* Lead engineering teams to design, develop and integrate software features to achieve business goals.
* Collaborate with Product Owner and Customer Journey Manager to deliver features on product roadmaps, manage technical debt and maintain production health.
* Engineer reliable, scalable, performant and secure solutions that follow solution design patterns and endorsed technologies.
* Engage architects and technical communities to drive solution reuse, avoid complexity and create point solutions.
* Plan, commit to achievable goals, prioritize and foster collective responsibility of ceremonies, manage impediments and external dependencies.
* Collaborate with Agility Leads to advance team effectiveness by installing change that increases cadence of delivery, reduces cost ownership and increases quality.
* Install active application custodianship to manage incidents, compliance findings, risks and running costs.
* Coach, develop and mentor engineers to achieve team, technical and personal goals.
* Model group values and shape learning culture across teams.
* Manage costs, review efficiency of spend and provide technical feedback to investment process.
What you’ll need
* Extensive practical experience providing engineering team oversight to develop strategic solutions to achieve business outcomes.
* Experience delivering data‑driven solutions in modern cloud‑native platforms and legacy systems.
* Deep experience leading modern engineering teams within enterprise environments, balancing transformation initiatives with operational stability.
* Practical experience empowering agile teams to deliver value early and often. Foster culture of continuous improvement, data quality, observability and performance monitoring.
* Natural inquisitiveness about emerging technologies and application to improve customer journeys and operational efficiency.
* Proven experience in a leadership role within engineering, mentoring and developing talent.
* Breadth of technical understanding across software development and architecture, service operations, DevOps and cloud.
