Scrub Nurse / ODP role at Royal Marsden.
Main duties of the job
* Carry out nursing care for patients as outlined with shift coordinator.
* Perform all tasks of a registered theatre nurse/ODP, including resuscitation, scrub and circulation, following all checks and procedures as laid down in national and Trust theatre policy.
* Provide relevant care independently, demonstrate procedures, supervise underqualified staff while maintaining a safe environment.
* Responsible for safe use of complex scrub equipment (diathermy, laparoscopic etc).
* Demonstrate sound knowledge of safe decontamination processes and practices, especially regarding flexible scopes and instrument sterilisation.
* Support senior staff and multidisciplinary team in monitoring and maintaining clinical standards and staff development as part of the theatre team.
* Provide high‑quality, individualized, evidence‑based care to patients, clients, and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi‑professional team, aligned with local and national targets.
Job responsibilities
* Complete first‑level assessment of patient needs and document care plan, plan, deliver and evaluate programmes of care from admission through to discharge/transfer.
* Understand the physiological, psycho‑social, spiritual and cultural needs of cancer patients and their families; develop a positive, realistic, supportive attitude to meet those needs.
* Use nursing history assessments and observations to identify individual nursing problems and needs, and plan and implement care.
* Set goals for resolution of identified nursing problems and help patients achieve them through appropriate care planning.
* Document and evaluate care given; discuss progress, condition, and treatment with colleagues, and alert the Sister/Charge Nurse of changing health‑care needs.
* Assist with teaching patients in preparation for investigations, treatment, and home care.
* Be aware of side effects of any treatment in progress and adopt a problem‑solving approach to minimise adverse reactions.
Person Specification
* Experience in area of speciality.
* Good interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members.
* Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise own workload.
* Evidence of commitment to customer care initiatives.
* Ability to demonstrate motivation.
* Commitment to personal and professional development.
* RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration (or to be obtained within three months of appointment).
