Stores Operative Role


The purpose of this role is to provide essential support to the Stores Supervisor in the effective day‑to‑day running of the stores function. This includes ensuring materials, parts, and equipment are received, stored, and issued efficiently and accurately to support operational needs. The role plays a key part in maintaining a well‑organised, safe, and compliant store environment, contributing to smooth workflow across the wider business.


Experience, knowledge and qualifications required


Essential


* Hold appropriate plant licences (i.e. Fork Lift Truck, MEWP, etc.)
* Have experience operating in an engineering stores environment.
* Possess full, valid UK driving licence.
* Experience maintaining stock control systems.


Main responsibilities


* Identification and logging of all plant, equipment, materials, etc. either at the Depot or on site.
* Inspection of lifting equipment and tackle either at the Depot or on-site.
* PAT testing of electrical equipment either at the Depot or on-site.
* Keep up to date, inventories of all plant, equipment, materials, etc. in the depot, on each project and/or each site.
* Loading and unloading of all plant, equipment, materials, etc. as and when required to meet all required deadlines.
* Ensure that any loads being lifted are correctly assessed.
* If manual handling is required, ensure you are complying with the relevant manual handling regulations.
* If mechanical handling is required, ensure loads are supported / slung correctly and safely.
* Ensure that all loads are safely loaded, suitably secured and appropriate for the type of vehicle being loaded as advised by lorry driver.
* Ensure that all received loads are safe to be unloaded (i.e. the load has not become unsafe during transit).
* Operate plant (i.e. Fork Lift Truck, MEWP, Crane, etc.) safely and within the relevant regulations.
* Comply with the requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), including the obtaining and filing of safety data sheets from product suppliers.
* Ensure all plant, equipment, material, etc. requests (i.e. tackle lists, etc.) are complete before release from the Depot.
* Ensure the general upkeep of Stores facility is in accordance with the required company standards.
* Monitor and maintain all plant, equipment, material, etc. stock levels to agreed levels.
* Ensure all new and/or returned plant, equipment, material, etc. is inspected, placed or returned correctly into stock, as soon as possible.
* Monitor and control all plant, equipment, material, etc. certificates and associated testing requirements.
* Ensure all plant, equipment, material, etc. is suitably marked and can be readily identified.
* Ensure all plant, equipment, material, etc. is in a fully working condition before being released rom the Depot.
* Be responsible at all times for the health and safety of yourself and that of any other person (s) who may be affected by your actions.
* Report all accidents and incidents, in particular “near misses” and to participate in the investigation process.
* Setting a clear example by promoting health, safety and environmental awareness
