As a key member of our transport operations, you will be responsible for managing our team of LGV drivers, overseeing our modern fleet, and ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained on every shift.
About the Role
In this critical leadership role, you will drive the success of our transport operations by managing a dedicated team of LGV drivers and overseeing our modern vehicle fleet. You will ensure seamless daily operations while championing a culture of safety and excellence across your shifts.
People Management
* Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of LGV drivers, providing effective feedback and support to foster their success.
* Professionally handle employee issues in line with company policies and procedures.
* Collaborate with the training team to successfully onboard new employees and coordinate any remedial training required.
* Cultivate a positive and inclusive working environment to boost morale, promote excellence, and minimize employee churn.
Shift and Fleet Management
* Oversee the day-to-day management of our vehicle fleet, ensuring maximum availability and safety.
* Record and monitor vehicle defects, manage the driver defect process, and coordinate with fleet technicians.
* Manage vehicle breakdowns and recovery efficiently to minimize operational disruption.
* Monitor and administer vehicle systems, including Samsara maintenance and temperature monitoring.
* Handle administrative tasks such as unit downloads, trailer wash cycles, and tracking missing mileage.
* Conduct workplace inspections, yard checks, and audits to ensure compliance.
Health & Safety
* Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring all tasks are performed in line with training and Safe Systems of Work.
* Ensure you and your team observe all site safety rules and use appropriate PPE.
* Report all accidents, incidents, and potential hazards immediately to your line manager.
About You
* Proven experience in managing or supervising teams, particularly large groups.
* Strong internal and external customer service skills.
* A current and valid UK Driving Licence.
Preferred Qualifications
* Excellent knowledge of the UK Highway Code, EU driving regulations, and Working Time Directives.
* Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise with various stakeholders and service providers.
* Familiarity with standard HR policies and procedures.
* Previous experience in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment, fleet management, and health and safety.
